Andy Murray's Tennis Serve

[ad_1]

Last week, Rafael Nadal won the 2009 BNP Paribas Tennis Tournament at Indian Wells, California, defeating Andy Murray easily in the final.

As we watched the tournament, we heard frequent discussions of Murray's second serve, and that if he could develop a better second serve he would be almost unstoppable. Of course, he was almost unstoppable at Indian Wells, but did lose badly in the final, mostly because of poor serving. In that final match against Nadal, he lost his service games four times and won only 6 of 16 (38%) of his 2nd serve points. Let's take nothing away from Nadal though; he has the best return game in tennis, possibly the best ever.

All tennis players, including beginners, know the importance of the serve. A good serve can result in easy points and puts pressure on an opponent. The first and second serves in tennis usually have different goals. With your first serve, you want to win the point with an ace, service winner, or at least put your opponent in a defensive position for the next shot. The first serve is generally flat and fast, and you can take more risk, knowing you have an attempt at a 2nd serve if you need it. The second serve is your backup safety. Your priority is to get the second serve in and start the point. If you miss the second serve, you will double fault and give your opponent a free point. Most tennis players put a lot more spin on the second serve, but this tends to reduce the speed of the serve.

Because of the slower pace, the second serve often gives the receiver plenty of time to get into position to hit an aggressive return. However, if you can make your second serve look similar to your first serve, at least in terms of the service motion, you can make it difficult for the receiver to predict the speed (and type of spin) of the serve, and you may retain a significant advantage, even as you serve slower and with more control.

We found some video of Andy Murray's first serve and decided to look at it from a biomechanics point of view. This video is set up very well for video analysis. The camera is set up along the baseline, which allows us to get a side-on view of Andy during his serve. We can also see the complete service motion in the video, including the racquet head, and can see the racquet make contact with the ball. It would have been great if we could've seen the complete ball toss (the ball goes out of the top of the screen) and if the camera had been stable and mounted on a tripod; but in general, this is good video sports analysis footage.
You can see the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GFkqD7GBZQ  .

The power in the tennis serve, like many throwing or hitting sports (baseball hitting and pitching, football throw, and golf) is created by a chain of events. Each part of the body loads up with energy and transfers its energy to the next link in the chain. The timing of this energy transfer is critical to creating racquet head speed and therefore a good, fast serve.

In Andy's serve, we see how he starts with his knee bend as he throws the ball up. You may also notice that as he bends his knees his hips turn away from the court. He then transfers this energy now stored in his hips by bringing his back foot up to his front foot and rotating his hips into the court. Once again notice that as he rotates his hips back into the court, his shoulders now rotate away. This counter rotation in both hips and then shoulders creates the potential for racket head speed; Andy is coiled up and ready to explode his racket toward the ball.

As he does this, he releases the potential energy, rotates his shoulders back into the court, and throws his racket at the ball. All these energy transfers add up to create the speed with which he will hit his serve. If his timing is off, his speed will not be as high.

The ball toss is, of course, just as important. If you do not throw the ball consistently, it will be very diffcult to perfect the timing of your kinetic chain (described above). Andy's ball toss is high and a falls about a foot inside the court. If you want to hit a good hard serve, the ball needs to be in front of you, so that your body and racquet are moving forward when the ball is struck. If the ball toss is directly above your head, it is much more difficult to get theball moving forward with as much pace.

Ok, so Andy has a great first serve, and we can see that here. It is his second serve that the commentators were discussing. Unfortunately, we were unable to find any good footage of his second serve to compare it to his first serve. We are sure his coach is working hard on improving his kinetic chain sequence and timing to make it more difficult for his opponents to read his second serve.

Visit us at http://videosportsanalysis.blogspot.com to see more video analysis of different sports and to learn more about how to analyse sport using your video camera.

Samsung LN46B750 First HDTV Exceeded my expectations

[ad_1]

I made a lot of reading, decisions very closely, and many new treatments before they finally decided to choose Samsung TV for my first HDTV. This has proved an excellent time to enter the land of HDTV, as they come and past 60MHz LED LCD TV comes with the reduction rate of conventional LCD TVs. I hate to be one of the first users of anything, if I have to admit that the LED TVs have been tempted. What I decided to buy Samsung LN46B750, despite reading some reviews, I’m afraid not to buy are:

- The picture quality is not very different from the first LED, and a lot cheaper
- Black Model Assessment of 240MHz (LN46B650) were much higher than the model 120 MHz (LN46B750)
- Dynamic Contrast Model 240 MHz 120MHz vs 150000:1 of 100000:1
- 2 ms responstid – vilket ?r bra f?r spel
- The off-angle viewing – I bought this TV host fights UFC and football, so we expect that your friends than optimal angles

(((Image Quality))) – is truly remarkable. Never thought I’d see this level of quality films until everyone has left me and went for BluRay and cables better. Not only the details to better ensure that all details in the faces of people making a film totally different meaning … I can only play standard DVDs on my Xbox 360. Now, I say, the first film was almost a soap opera feel, but when you configure the composition back to what I used to, what we really miss the “Standard” mode, where the TV will be delivered. If you do not like the ultra-realistic look that gives the standard method of review LN46B750 CNET, are decent setup brings you closer than before. There is a huge bonus, I must say that the TV you … Old TV settings, almost seemed to be little difference. But for those who play with things like the TV settings, during a real change to get the desired effect. Rate for standard cable satellite television remains the standard view – small improvements, so if that is all that is trying its not worth going into HDTV on your current TV is fine.

For those who want something that works factory settings outside the window – they were great.

Some say that the exterior angle is horrible … These people are serious? If you’re concerned about this, go to a store and look at is the only way to be sure it will be a problem for you or not. I can not turn the corner. I have not seen much (if TV) handles off-angle viewing better than TV. I can clearly see the image in gray, with a minimal effect, even at an angle of 20 percent … I do not understand why anyone would even like to sit in that corner yet, but everything else …

(((Film))) – Awesome. See the image quality. I personally prefer the default, even if you have Hyper-realistic look. In my old Sony Trinitron, still think it’s a good TV … Outside of his crazy weight I watched film is anything but good. For example, processors, when images of battle Predator are a kind of hard to discern and processors have moved too quickly to really see how it looks. In Samsung, the battlefield was clear that all the images coming out and I could see every piece of metal that moved the missiles. See A-10 and AC-130H was Beautimus in HD glory!

The second film I had to prove was stable, clean as a rating of TV-out scale black. We speak of dark scenes with people in black Italian cotton in dark gray walls, the fine structure and gradient illumination limited. TV and treated very beautiful! Black is black, the data were sharp, white was white devils. I could also see exactly all the clothes worn in the scene where the only light is the flash of a firearm. For television, his shirt many many scenes are more like their Black T-7YR disappeared. With Samsung, it seems that the day it was purchased. Depending on the position of LN46B750 (240 MHz) is a best score of scale LN46B650 black (120MHz), the model, and I sincerely believe that paying an extra $ 200 just for this reason. Fortunately 240MHz model has a better dynamic contrast than the 120 MHz model, which would seal the deal. I do not care either 240MHz bonus because the difference is minimal – it is the black spot and a contrast ratio that matters to me.

(((Games))) – Awesome. Some people have reported that there is a problem of late-latency … I can not help wondering if they are only a lemon, or if you have to do with the delays on the Internet or something, because honestly, I do not know. The game is my main hobby, especially playing on the internet and frankly I do not see latency issues, but _not_ ever. I wish that computers were the answer … seriously. Once the package of television, the daughter of my friend (boy) and I played Mortal Kombat vs DC (believe me … there are no latency issues that have been done in this game alone), Bioshock, Soul Calibur 3, Burnout Paradise, Gears of War 2, Overlord 2 latency and no lag even enter our thoughts.

Zero latency – towing MKvsDC was _instant_. Zero fibrillation. Zero ghosting. Zero to trim. Everything was spot on. Again, I want my team has the answer … but once my treatment of network traffic. So that’s what I think people see the latency when playing online and network traffic is bad, because this is not really the fault of television.

(((Audio))) – Yes, it deserves criticism. You can still watch TV and movies as expected – but the default SUCK. Playing with the equalizer presets are certainly not optimal. Through the optimization, not so bad. It may be necessary to increase the volume a bit ‘more than we’re used to, but certainly had to play with sounds. Since Samsung TV allows you to adjust the equalizer settings, I will continue to review most of this TV 5 stars … TV, where reality has exceeded my expectations.

(((MISC))) – The menu system is intelligent – it is modern, functional (love the explanation of each option) and I like the transparency, so you can still see what appears. Some complain that the response of the menu. I received the keys to a couple of times, so I started to point the remote directly to the TV – now I know I have to say the TV, no children. This is not “instant”, but there’s nothing to complain about. Windows now painfully slow. My biggest complaint about the system of menus with the settings so that you can change it would be fantastic if I could save custom profiles so you can easily switch between them.

Dorky remotely. Seriously, who designed this type of waste plastic? I really need this additional appendix of plastic? Works at a distance and is intuitive. I usually hunt large functional buttons on my remote control, even after their possession for a while ‘… provided that no complaint regarding the position of the buttons. Even what is usually called “Input” is marked as “Source” – FYI. Love Samsung Ln46b750 TV. For those who care about the decor – the TV is slim and elegant.

Biography of Serena Williams: Some Useful Information!

[ad_1]

Though, it is really difficult to explain the Biography of Serena Williams in a single article, but we are trying here to put some general information about her. As we all know that Serena Jameka Williams is a famous tennis player with 25 grand slam titles in her kitty. Born on September 26, 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan she was raised by her mother. Serena and her four sisters were brought up as the members of Jejovah's Witnesses group which is a religious group in Michigan. At the age of four, Serena and her elder sister entered their footsteps into tennis when their family moved to Los Angeles in 1985. Serena's father gave her schooling lessons at home, like her other sisters and also coached her for the tennis court.

At the age of 10 Serena was ranked no.1 among the top 10 players of Florida and displayed an excellent show in the United States Tennis Association junior tour with 46 wins compared to only 3 looses. She started her professional career in 1995 in Quebec City and lost her first ever professional match, bagging prize money of only $240. She came back into the professional era in 1997 with a bang, by defeating Monica Seles who was world no. 1 at that time, and became the lowest ranked player to defeat the esteemed class of top 10 players. Her ranking dropped from 304 at the start of 1997 to 99 at the end of the year.

She made her appearance into a grand slam by qualifying into the Australian Open in 1998 and defeating sixth seeded Irina Spirlea before crashing out of the competition in the second round. The same year she made her appearance felt in other major tournaments and grand slams including Wimbledon, French open and US open. She won her first professional title in 1999 when she defeated Amile Mauresmo in Open Gaz de France. After her first title win she bagged a number of titles in the coming years such as JPMorgan Chase Open, Grand Slam Cup and Faber Grand Fix.

She represented United States in women's double titles when she teamed up with sister Venus Williams and won gold medal for the country. Although her performance at the grand slam levels improved consistently but she couldn't bag a grand slam tile till 2002 when she won Wimbledon Grand Slam title by defeating her sister cum Defending champion Venus Williams. In the coming years she won a lot of grand slams including French open, US open, Australian Open and Wimbledon taking her total tally to 25 grand slam titles till date.

Serena Williams is one of the most successful female tennis players of all times today, and achieved the feat by overcoming constant injuries. She is highly regarded for her coming back to the court after the long injury from 2004-2006. Apart from tennis she is also interested in fashion industry and her dressing sense on the court and off the court has always attracted talks. She opened Serena Williams Charity School in Kenya in 2008 and is also a part of Avon Foundation that spreads awareness against breast cancer. All in all, she is a successful lady who can act as an idol to almost any woman in the world.

Imj-online Leads Casting Directors to New Acting Talent From Pakistan and India

[ad_1]

Since its inception in 1999, "IMJ-Online" has become synonymous with "international modeling success"  by helping aspiring and established models alike to make their presence known on the global stage.

But increasingly IMJ-Online is being used by industry professionals in the video, TV and film world to find new actors and actresses from nearly every region on the planet.  These new faces and new talents are in  high demand as directors seek to inject new excitement and an exotic edge into their productions.   Notably, there has been a flurry of recent booking activity at IMJ-Online focused on capturing the talent bursting out of India and Pakistan.

Why so much interest and excitement in this region?  Christina George, Chief IMJ-Online Editor says, "As global recognition of the high-quality talent currently doing fantastic cutting-edge work in India -- but also in Pakistan --  increases, so does interest in bringing this exciting new talent to productions in other regions of the world.  In acting, the old adage that ‘success breeds success' is oh-so-true."

Christine continues, "Actors and actresses with roots and industry experience in India and Pakistan are simply hot commodities these days, not only in Hollywood and New York, but also in some of the other hot film and TV production areas such as Chicago and Texas, Brisbane and Madrid."

International Models Journal (IMJ-Online) is a global networking medium between models, actors, scouts, casting directors, agents and industry professionals alike (referred to bookers on IMJ-Online). Launched in 1999, IMJ-Online publishes vital news about industry information, casting calls and member stories, guiding hopefuls and professionals around the world to further their careers.

Bookers who seek a broad spectrum of new models and talent, may register at IMJ-Online for free, receiving access to a large database of unique and exotic faces, bios and portfolios. Registered bookers may publish announcements, casting calls and auditions to find the right persons through IMJ-Online.

Registered models and actors may create a portfolio and bio displaying past experiences using photos and text.  The portfolio entries may include runway shows, promotional events, pageants, photo shoots, magazine features/covers, stage entrances and still shots from TV or movie appearances. Bios serve as a complete insight on the model or actor, highlighting their personality including a list of facts like birth, education, work, awards, achievements, dreams, desires, goals and aspirations.

Francisco Vandery, who seeks talent from India for film productions in the eastern United States tells us:  "I regularly – very regularly – consult IMJ-Online because, quite frankly, I don't have the time to sift through hundreds of poorly-done portfolios when looking for talent to audition for my productions.  I know that when an actor or actress has been accepted by IMJ-Online, I will quickly get a quality description of their experience and talents.  And it's a site that is very easy to use.  The way the site is set up, I don't feel that I may be missing some perfect fit for my jobs just because the person is ‘filed' wrong or that their portfolio is of distractingly poor quality."

Booker reliance on IMJ quality and professionalism is one of the keys to the modeling-acting network's success.  Every photo submitted to IMJ-Online is checked by a photo editor.  "We only accept about 65-70% of the photos that aspiring models and actors send us.  I feel that we owe it to the models and actors who register with us to make sure that they present themselves professionally and seriously.   A bad-quality photo of a very attractive person is still a bad quality photo," says the pragmatic photo editor Susan Birch.

English editors also work with IMJ-Online clients to edit biographical and portfolio entries to ensure that a professional international standard is achieved and maintained.

"Our mind set concerns quality over quantity. We run a professional site, only working with those who are serious about pursuing a career in the model and acting business," said Miss.  George.

The race to book new talent is tight, but so is the contest to be noticed by industry professionals.  IMJ-Online is helping the supply of talent reach the demand not only for exciting new faces but also for riveting, exotic-yet-familiar on-screen talent.

Byzantine Dress

[ad_1]

Byzantine dress changed considerably over the thousand years of the Empire, but was essentially conservative. The Byzantines liked colour and pattern, and made and exported very richly patterned cloth, woven and embroidered for the upper classes, and resist-dyed and printed for the lower. A different border or trimming round the edges was very common, and many single stripes down the body or around the upper arm are seen, often denoting class or rank. Taste for the middle and upper classes followed the latest fashions at the Imperial Court. As in the West during the Middle Ages, clothing was very expensive for the poor, who probably wore the same well-worn clothes nearly all the time.

fishing bib pantsIn the early stages of the Byzantine Empire the traditional Roman toga was popular. By Justinian's time this had been replaced by the tunica, or long chiton, for both sexes, over which the upper classes wore other garments, like a dalmatica (dalmatic), a heavier and shorter type of tunica, again worn by both sexes, but mainly by men. The hems often curve down to a sharp point. The scaramangion was a riding-coat of Persian origin, opening down the front and normally coming to the mid-thigh, although these are recorded as being worn by Emperors, when they seem to become much longer. In general, except for military and presumably riding-dress, men of higher status, and all women, had clothes that came down to the ankles, or nearly so. Women often wore a top layer of the stola, for the rich in brocade. All of these, except the stola, might be belted or not. The terms for dress are often confusing, and certain identification of the name a particular pictured item had, or the design that relates to a particular documentary reference, is rare, especially outside the Court.

fancy ladies shoesThe chlamys, a semicircular cloak fastened to the right shoulder continued throughout the period. The length fell sometimes only to the hips or as far as the ankles, much longer than the version commonly worn in Ancient Greece; the longer version is also called a paludamentum. Emperor Justinian wears one, with a huge brooch, as well as his courtiers in the Ravenna mosaics. On each straight edge men of the senatorial class had a tablion, a lozenge shaped coloured panel across the chest or midriff (at the front), which was also used to show the further rank of the wearer by the colour or type of embroidery and jewels used (compare those of Justinian and his courtiers). Theodosius I and his sons were shown in 488 with theirs at knee level in the Madrid missorium. A paragauda or border of thick cloth, usually including gold, was also an indicator of rank. Sometimes an oblong cloak would be worn, especially by the military and ordinary people; it was not for court occasions. Cloaks were pinned on the right shoulder for ease of movement, and access to a sword.

Leggings and hose were often worn, but are not prominent in depictions of the wealthy; they were associated with barbarians, whether European or Persian. Even basic clothes appear to have been surprisingly expensive for the poor.[2] Some manual workers, probably slaves, are shown continuing to wear, at least in summer, the basic Roman slip costume which was effectively two rectangles sewn together at the shoulders and below the arm. Others, when engaged in activity, are shown with the sides of their tunic tied up to the waist for ease of movement.

The most common images surviving from the Byzantine period are not relevant as references for actual dress worn in the period. Christ (often even as a baby), the Apostles, Saint Joseph, Saint John the Baptist and some others are nearly always shown wearing formulaic dress of a large himation, a large rectanglar mantle wrapped round the body (almost a toga), over a chiton, or loose sleeved tunic, reaching to the ankles. Sandals are worn on the feet. This costume is not commonly seen in secular contexts, although possibly this is deliberate, to avoid confusing secular with divine subjects. The Theotokos (Virgin Mary) is shown wearing a maphorion, a more shaped mantle with a hood and sometimes a hole at the neck. This probably is close to actual typical dress for widows, and for married women when in public. The Virgin's underdress may be visible, especially at the sleeves. There are also conventions for Old Testament prophets and other Biblical figures. Apart from the Christ and the Virgin, much iconographic dress is white or relatively muted in colour especially when on walls (murals and mosaics) and in manuscripts, but more brightly coloured in icons. Many other figures in Biblical scenes, especially if unnamed, are usually depicted wearing "contemporary" Byzantine clothing.

Top 5: Innovative Brand Logo Designs

[ad_1]

A brand’s logo is possibly the most defining aspect of the brand itself. We have come to equate a single logo with an entire brand’s mission and purpose. Graphic designers call making logos “visual identity” projects, because they are essentially creating the identity of the brand and the people behind it. There are some obvious examples that are always circulating—Nike’s “Swoosh” can also represent a check mark for “Just Do It”—there are many others that deserve recognition. Another example is Google, known for their clever logo illustrations on holidays and important events in history. In this week’s top five, we’re exploring some of our favorite innovative and creative logos.

1. Big 10 Conference

big10.jpgThe Big 10 conference has some of the most recognizable team names in college sports. It is no wonder that their logo is recognizable as well. At first, it may seem like your typical block lettering. Upon closer look, you can see the number 11 in between the “T,” to represent that there are actually 11 teams in the conference, despite its name. This technique uses the negative space to provide a bigger meaning.

2. Pepsi

pepsi.jpgPepsi’s recent rebranding efforts have brought about mixed feelings from the public. With a 27 page in-depth report about the thought process behind the new logo, it still isn’t getting much praise. Still, there is one aspect that shouldn’t be overlooked—the sphere. If you study it closely among all the different Pepsi beverages, the sphere is actually different on each one. The reason? They’re supposed to be subtle hints at emoticons. Smiling and laughing, the spheres represent emotions, perhaps emotions that are meant to be evoked while drinking a Pepsi product? We’re not sure, but they still deserve some credit for such an innovative idea.

3. Heart Beats

heartbeat.jpgThis logo for a small music store packs three messages into one, while still remaining simple and easy of the eyes. The heart in the middle is formed by two music notes, which are also made to look like headphones. It conveys the company’s love of music in a very user-friendly way, something that many companies strive for but can’t quite match sometimes. The colors also go well together, with the eye-catching headphone graphic pulling you in at first glance.

4. Madrid Olympics 2016

madrid.jpgThe Madrid Olympic committee opened up a contest for logo design in 2007 and had the public vote on the final designs. The winning logo incorporates the colors of the well-known Olympic rings, but in an interesting twist. The hand, bursting with color, waves “Hello” or “Welcome” to Olympic visitors. It even has a name—“Corle.” The white cut-away on the bottom...

Dancing in the Politics – Legalizing Marijuana to Improve Lives of Millions

[ad_1]

The active ingredient in marijuana appears to reduce tumor growth, according to a Spanish study published on Wednesday. The researchers demonstrated giving THC to mice with cancer decreased tumor growth and killed cells off in a process called autophagy.“ The findings support that safe, therapeutically efficacious doses of THC may be reached in cancer patients," Guillermo Velasco of Complutense University in Madrid and colleagues reported in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

Other research has shown benefits, such as staving off Alzheimer's, and many doctors view THC as a valuable way to treat weight loss associated with AIDS, and nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy in cancer patients. Velasco and his team's study included an analysis of two tumors from two people with a highly aggressive brain cancer which showed signs of autophagy after receiving THC. The researchers said the findings could pave the way for cannabinoid-based drugs to treat cancer.

It has been made clear by President Obama's Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowaske what the federal government position is on the matter. Gil said: "marijuana is dangerous and has no medicinal benefit" and that "legalization is not in the president's vocabulary, and it's not in mine." When will the ignorance stop? You are worried about gang activity all over the United States; legalizing marijuana would practically banish gang funds from marijuana. Several automotive companies like BMW use hemp in there door panels, yet it’s illegal to grow hemp in the United States. Instead of spending millions to import hemp, and spending millions to pay farmers in the bread basket not to grow crops, we can grow fields of marijuana and hemp to help not only the economy, but the environment. Hemp can be utilized in thousands of industries, marijuana can lower healthcare costs, and may even prove to be helpful in many other diseases / illnesses.  Instead of feeding people arrogant statements about legalizing marijuana, look at the facts and do what’s right for our country.

It’s kind of nauseating to think that not only our political advisers, financial advisers, and economic advisers, but the president of the United States is too caught up in the politics of legalizing marijuana that they don’t take the time to look at the facts. Studies done about the toxins in marijuana were done on samples that included all leaves, stems, and seeds. So of course the toxins would be comparable to cigarettes.  Until the government provides us proper testing supplies, it’s hard to get a sturdy case.  Looking around the market, everyone seems to be convinced that they have ADD, ADHD, Anxiety, or some sort of Depression.  If you take a second to look at the side of effects of every medication used for these fairy tale conditions, you’ll see things like nausea, vomiting, depression, anxiety, active behavior, suicidal thoughts, and acts of aggression or anger. Now let’s take a look at the side effects of smoking out of a vaporizer, or consuming thc, hungry, happy, and sleepy. THC is the only known substance to cure nausea while at the same time causing hunger. Studies done on mice and rats shows that the hungry like feeling from marijuana comes from the breast feeding stage of your life, natural body cannabinoids are consumed from the breast milk and are delivered to the natural cannabinoid receptors found in almost all mammals.  So as you smoke marijuana this is being triggered, causing the emotional and physical ability to eat comes into play. As we look at recent studies done on thc and cancer, we notice tumors, and cancer cells being reduced, if not eliminated.

While we dance in the politics of legalizing marijuana… why is it so hard to accept marijuana and hemp used at a sophisticated level could revolutionize this country. Instead of taxing the shit out of the Americans responsible for keeping this country alive, tax hemp and marijuana like alcohol, making millions while saving the environment and improving the life of millions. Using hemp for paper, clothing, and rope alone would help the environment significantly.  As far as recreational use of marijuana, the only side effects are moderate if any; a little euphoria never hurt anyone.
