Pilates, gym, yoga, aerobics are all great to get into shape but did you know that an hour in the pool can beat it all? Swimming is a great workout for the upper and lower body. If you're someone who fears water, here are some of the benefits of swimming - maybe you'll just want to take the plunge!
Advantages of becoming a Water Baby:
Taking to the water is not easy for all especially if you have hydrophobia, i.e. fear of water or you simply don't know how to swim. But the good thing about swimming is that you can learn it whenever you are ready for it. From babies to adults, all can learn swimming regardless of their age.
Swimming is first and foremost a brilliant form of exercise. It raises your heart beat and thus increases the blood circulation through the entire body. Swimming is primarily an upper body exercise as you end up using your arms, shoulders and chest to propel yourself ahead. But it would not be wrong to say that it is a complete body exercise as it helps in losing weight if it is done regularly for more than 3 weeks minimum.
Swimming helps people ailing with arthritis, weight problems, and back problems as this form of exercise does not put unnecessary pressure and avoids pain. It is also good for people with lung conditions like asthma as the air around the pool is humid which makes it easier to breathe.
Swimming is a fun activity as it not only keeps you fit but you can enjoy going swimming with friends and family for an outing. If you know how to swim you can plan a swimming trip either to your personal swimming pool or to a safe lake or pond.
One of the most important advantages of swimming is safety. If ever there is an accident and you find yourself in water you should be able to keep yourself afloat till help arrives or you can swim your way to safety. This is especially true for children as they should be taught from an early age so that they can learn to be calm in case of an incident.
